In subsequent years, we hope to synthesize data from wetland habitats throughout the Everglades and reconstruct vegetation and hydrology for specific time slices (i.e., predrainage Everglades (~AD ), early 20 th century (~AD ), and post-C&SF Project (~AD ). These data are needed to validate model estimates of predrainage. The Everglades is one of the most famous ecological restoration efforts in the world. When the US Congress approved the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of , nested within this WRDA was the largest ($ billion) Federally supported authorization for environmental restoration in US history, the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP).   Application of RCT method to the dramatically altered Everglades RS landscape to provided valuable inferences of likely HP regimes under alternate pattern configurations (e.g., higher Δz and modified ɛ) and restoration flow scenarios. These results help address a challenging knowledge gap about the ecohydrology of the predrainage Everglades.

Detailed detective work; + sources; mapping & synthesis (See "What can we do about predrainage conditions?"). Basin topography and relation to surrounding rim. Spatial extents of five principal landscapes (top right). Vegetation, topography, soils, and hydrology for each landscape. Typical pre-drainage wet & dry season water depths. Overview & Objective(s): The initial objective of this project is reconstruction of marl prairie vegetation and hydroperiod for the last few centuries to evaluate impacts of climate variability and anthropogenic alteration of hydrology on this critical habitat. This research builds upon previous work throughout the Greater Everglades wetland.
